Water Levels Continue to Rise in Banteay Meanchey

Banteay Meanchey: District Governor of Mongkul Borei, Rath Dasinang, has confirmed to EAC News that water levels in the Mongkul Borei River have risen. He’s announced that evacuation routes and emergency equipment have been prepared around Banteay Meanchey, although the water levels there have not yet reached crisis point. Preventive rescue preparations have been made though at the instruction of Banteay Meanchey Governor, Oum Reatrey, who visited Serey Sophorn City at the weekend.

Water levels have also risen in O’Chrov district, according to the district governor Yim Samnang, although near the Thai border water levels are dropping. O’Chrov is monitoring the situation, together with other districts adjacent to Thailand, namely Malai, Poipet and Thma Puok. If rains continue to fall heavily, flooding could become a problem.

A forecast announced by the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology has declared that a low pressure system will stretch across continental Southeast Asia until next Tuesday. This will coincide with monsoon rains from the southwest, causing some areas to receive light to moderate rainfall.
